10 Steps to Reach Your Health Goal
Most people have an “all-or-nothing” attitude when it comes to their health. How many times have you tried to go on a “fad” diet or quit smoking cold turkey? These tactics are only setting you up for failure because they are quick fix solutions. Here are ten tips to help you achieve your health goal(s):
1.) Adopt a healthy attitude- accept that the changes you are about to make are permanent lifestyle changes, not quick fixes.
2.) Educate yourself- when making any lifestyle change, it is crucial to consult your physician and/or chiropractor.
3.) Be realistic- make several small goals- this will be easier to track and give you a reasonable amount of time to reach your ultimate goal
4.) Take baby steps- if your goal is to walk everyday, first start with 2-3 days per week for 20 minutes/session and increase your time every few weeks (make sure to consult your chiropractor before beginning any exercise program).
5.) Seek support- tell your friends and family your goal(s). Moral support from loved ones is a great motivator.
6.) Keep a journal- write down your goal and track your daily progress. Remember to include how you are feeling each day- this will teach you a lot about yourself.
7.) Forget about setbacks- do not get discouraged if you get off track- just remember that tomorrow is a new day!
8.) Avoid the negative- do not let anyone or anything hinder your progress.
9.) Reward yourself- when you reach each milestone you have set, reward yourself with a massage or a new pair of shoes.
10.)You did it!- celebrate once your reach your final goal and feel proud of your new, healthy lifestyle!
