Hello [NAME],

The holidays are upon, which means more eating, drinking and partying… and weight gain! Recent studies have shown that the average weight gain is between 9 and 11 pounds from Thanksgiving to New Year’s. Here are five tips to help you beat the bulge (and maybe even lose weight) during this wonderful holiday season:

  1. 1.  Control portion sizes- everybody wants to indulge a little bit during the holidays, but you still have to watch your portions. Instead of having a whole plate of cookies, select two of your favorites. Making a “treat sheet” can be very helpful for keeping you on track.

  1. 2.  Drink at least 8 glasses of water per day- sometimes people eat when really their body is signaling for water. Drinking enough water will help provide satiety, keep you hydrated and overall healthier. Drink a glass of water before each meal to help fill you up beforehand.

  1. 3.  Exercise- this is not the time of year to skip the gym! For all of the extra calories consumed, you have to burn them off in order to avoid weight gain. Aim for 30 minutes of activity each day. *Consult your chiropractor when beginning any new exercise routine.

  1. 4.  Eat more frequently- do not let more than five hours go by without having a meal or snack. Waiting longer than five hours may make it more likely to overindulge at your next meal. Eating every 3-4 hours will stabilize your blood sugar and keep your metabolism moving.

  1. 5.  Increase fiber intake- adding a variety of fruits, vegetables and whole grains will bulk up your meals without adding a lot of calories. Eating more fiber aids in healthy digestion as well as keeping you feeling full for a longer period of time. In addition, studies show that it prevents certain cancers, heart disease and diabetes.
  2.
  3. We hope these five tips help you take care of your body during the holiday season!
